Tempers flared Wednesday when an 18-year-old Peoria man was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for the fatal 2023 Davenport shooting of a Moline man. CR Council purchases undeveloped downtown site for temporary parking, redevelopment
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Cedar Rapids City Council approved the purchase of a valuable piece of downtown real estate to ease parking problems during flood wall construction. The two lots at the corner of 1st Street and 3rd Avenue SE have long been talked about for development of a new building, but it has remained untouched for years. The city approved purchasing the land during the July 9 meeting for $1.025 million. That's well below the original price of $2.5 million listed by GLD Commercial in 2022.
