Binghamton Police are warning residents after they say a City of Binghamton resident fell for an online scam. Police say they were called to a City of Binghamton residence for suspicious activity and discovered the resident had fallen for a scam. Police say the victim received a "pop-up" ad claiming a virus was on the computer and a phone number was provided. The victim called the number and the unknown suspect on the other end of the line pretended to be a Microsoft employee and convinced the caller to allow remote access to the computer.
