History often repeats itself—a fate Joshua Silveira hopes to avoid.

The American Top Team standout will face Impa Kasanganay for the second time in less than nine months when their
Professional Fighters League light heavyweight semifinal headlines PFL 8 on Aug. 16 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Silveira lost a five-round unanimous decision to “Tshilobo” in the 2024 final in December, missing out on a league championship and a seven-figure payday in the process. Now, they meet again. A two-division Legacy Fighting Alliance titleholder, Silveira went 1-1 during the 2024 regular season to nail down the No. 4 seed in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the top-seeded Kasanganay heads into the postseason on the strength of back-to-back technical knockouts of Alex Polizzi and
Jakob Nedoh . The Kill Cliff Fight Club rep has posted eight wins in 10 appearances since parting ways with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2021.

As Kasanganay and Silveira approach their high stakes rematch, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

30: Years of age for Kasanganay, who was born on Jan. 17, 1994 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. “Philadelphia,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “House Party 3,” “Grumpy Old Men” and “The Pelican Brief” were the Top 5 movies at the domestic box office at the time.

5: Kasanganay victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 29% of his career total (17). His list of PFL victims: Nedoh, Polizzi,
Marthin Hamlet and Osama ElSeady . Kasanganay owns four other victories by submission (24%) and eight more by decision (47%).

178: Seconds needed for Kasanganay to dispose of Roger Pratcher with a rear-naked choke under the King of the Cage banner on May 11, 2019. More than five years later, it remains his fastest finish to date.

3: Countries in which Kasanganay has plied his mixed martial arts trade. He has gone 17-2 in the United States, 0-1 in Saudi Arabia and 0-1 in the United Arab Emirates.

.818: Cumulative winning percentage between the four men—
Johnny Eblen , Raimond Magomedaliev , Carlston Harris and Joaquin Buckley —who have beaten Kasanganay. They boast a combined record of 63-14.

31: Years of age for Silveira, who was born in Miami on Dec. 25, 1992. Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” Wreckx-N-Effect’s “Rump Shaker,” Shai’s “If I Ever Fall in Love,” Boyz II Men’s “In the Still of the Nite” and P.M. Dawn’s “I’d Die Without You” were the Top 5 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 list at the time.

6: Silveira wins by submission, accounting for 46% of his career total (13). His methods of choice: five rear-naked chokes and one arm-triangle choke. Silveira holds six other wins by knockout or technical knockout (46%) and one more by decision (8%).

32: Rounds started by Silveira as a professional mixed martial artist. He has gone the distance on four different occasions and carries a 1-3 record in those bouts.

2: Sub-minute stoppages on the Silveira resume. He put away Rafael Viana with a rear-naked choke in 41 seconds at LFA 106 on April 30, 2021 and cut down Tee Cummins with a head kick and follow-up punches in 49 seconds at LFA 115 on Sept. 24, 2021.

60: Combined victories between the three men—Kasanganay, Rob Wilkinson and Omari Akhmedov —who have defeated Silveira. They sport a cumulative .807 winning percentage at 60-14-1.
