Granny's Grit Recipe: A Southern Delicacy That's Easy and Delicious!

    2024-07-31

Grits are one of my favorite items to have at breakfast time. I know they are not for everyone but I truly enjoy them. I like my grits just like my mom and granny used to serve them to me as a kid. You will need the following ingredients:

    Recipe:

    1 cup of water

1/2 cup of 15 minute grits

    1 tablespoon of sugar

    1 tablespoon of butter

    dash of salt

In a small kettle bring the cup of water to a boil. Add the salt.

Next add the grits and place a lid on the kettle and boil the grits for 5 minutes.

Tip: If you like your grits creamier and thicker reduce the water amount by 1 tablespoon or so. If you like your grits thinner add 1 - 2 more tablespoons of water.

Remove the cooked grits from the heat.

Note: You can also make these savory by adding cheese and bacon. You can also use the grits that are not quick cooking just adjust the cooking time.

I like to serve these grits with a homemade biscuit (my recipe linked below) and a slice of country ham or some bacon. This recipe will make up to 2 servings.

I will tell you a funny story about my mom serving grits to me on a camping trip. She made up a batch and she always kept her salt and sugar in little baggies in her camper for easy storage. So upon finishing them she poured what she thought was sugar into the grits and served them right up. Needless to say I learnt what taking the hide off your tongue meant that morning. We still laugh about it to this day.
