You can’t blame a family of good Samaritans who thought they were helping a woman-in-need who had car problems last week at the Sherwood Kohl's department store.

Little did they know that the 45-year-old Salem woman they were helping had just exited the store with two suitcases filled with stolen merchandise during a June 24 spree.

“She was in the process of attempting to get her vehicle jumped when officers arrived on scene and detained her,” said Officer Paul Mattson, a Sherwood Police Department spokesperson.

Police soon discovered the woman, who authorities didn't identify, was on parole in Marion County for multiple counts of delivery of heroin.

“Officers recovered over $2,600 in stolen merchandise from Kohl’s inside her vehicle. They located baggies of meth and fentanyl powder as well … She said she steals to resell the merchandise on social media so she can purchase more drugs and she was not receptive to the idea of going to rehab,” according to a Sherwood Police Department online post.

The stolen merchandise included clothing, accessories, jewelry, makeup and more, police said.

The woman was arrested for first-degree theft, parole violation, misdemeanor unlawful possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor unlawful possession of a schedule II-controlled substance (fentanyl) and being a felon in possession of restricted weapon.
