Though he had a rough start to the 2023 season, being benched in Week 3, he returned to his spot as QB1 the following week and improved significantly as the season progressed. This week in HS Sports: Explaining the new 7A football playoff format ... maybe
This is an opinion piece. The AHSAA’s Central Board of Control approved the 2024 fall sports book this week. Included in that is the new format for the 7A football playoffs. Since the state went to seven classifications in 2014, the South winner (a team from either Region 1 or Region 2) and the North winner (a team from Region 3 or 4, though it’s been Region 3 every year) have met in the state championship game.

Historical Association to dedicate new marker at Paint Rock Valley School on July 28
The July meeting of the Jackson County Historical Association will be held Sunday, July 28 at 2:00 pm at Paint Rock Valley High School in Princeton where we will dedicate a new historical marker recognizing the school years of Paint Rock Valley High School and hear about plans for the building from its administrator, Mike Sims. This marker is primarily the work of one man: JCHA member Donald Langston, part of the PRVHC Class of 1956. He raised the money to have the marker created. He secured permission from the land owner to place the marker on the main road. When the marker was delivered, he organized the expedition to Scottsboro to retrieve the heavy marker, and helped with its setup. Our meeting will be inside the school in the historic gymnasium. Donald Langston and our speaker Mike Sims will serve as our guides, with Donald talking about the past and Mike about the future of this historic school. Those of you who frequent Graham Farms will be familiar with Mike. He is an excellent speaker who has addressed JCHA meetings before. After the program and a tour of the school, we will go outside and dedicate the new historical marker. The meeting is open to both members and non-members, and refreshments will be served. Alumni of the school are encouraged to attend and hear the plans for their historic alma mater.
