In recent weeks, a viral social media post has made waves, claiming that drinking pineapple juice can "cure" kidney disease. But health experts are stepping in to set the record straight: there is no scientific evidence to support these claims.

The misleading post, originally published on Facebook in July 2024, suggests that boiling pineapple and drinking the juice can alleviate kidney issues, including the need for dialysis. The post even claims that the remedy has no side effects and has successfully cured over 50 people:

"The remedy that cured my kidney disease. Please read it because it is my own experience and valuable. I have shared it with more than 50 people and all of them have been cured, so I am sharing it."

"People who receive dialysis should drink it with a spoon. People with other diseases should keep it cool and then drink all the juice within one hour... The remedy has no side effects. My kidney disease along with body swelling and blood in my urine has been cured for ten years."

But health professionals clarify that while pineapples are packed with nutrients, there is no evidence that their juice can treat or reverse kidney damage.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also confirmed that there is no scientific backing for the claim. They emphasized the importance of managing risk factors like diabetes and high blood pressure to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease.

While pineapple's hydration benefits may support kidney function, it does not have the curative properties that the viral post suggests. Foods, while nutritious, cannot replace medical treatments or cure diseases.

In summary, while pineapple juice may be a healthy addition to your diet, it should not be seen as a cure for kidney disease. For those suffering from kidney problems, following the advice of healthcare professionals and managing risk factors are the best ways to maintain kidney health.
