“You can kill me but can’t bring me back,” pretty much sums up Kensharael Watkins in frustration after her inability to get the Social Security Administration to fix a devasting error.

Kensharael Watkins, a Texas resident, was stunned to discover that she had been mistakenly labeled as deceased by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for the past six months.

The error, affecting around 10 , 000 individuals annually, had left Watkins legally nonexistent since January 10, 2024 , complicating her ability to access benefits, health insurance , and other essential services .

According to Fox13 , Watkins first encountered the issue when her application for Social Security benefits was denied.

Struggling with seizures and unable to work or drive , Watkins sought support from the SSA.

During an in-person visit to the Austin Peay office in February 2024, she was informed by a staff member that she had been listed as deceased since the start of the year.

The mistaken classification caused significant disruptions in Watkins’ life , impacting her employment , taxes, and even her search for health insurance .

The SSA receives approximately 3.1 million death reports each year, with less than one-third of one percent corrected, highlighting the scale and difficulty of addressing such errors.

The administration has since confirmed that Watkins’ status has been corrected, and her living status has been reinstated.

Despite the resolution , Watkins continues to face challenges as she navigates the aftermath of the error.

“At least we know she’s here!” a representative humorously noted, acknowledging the bizarre nature of the situation.
