Designer Tatiana Monét has officially launched her debut collection, “A Brooklyn Love Story,” which reflects a personal journey through the stages of love and artistic development.

The collection, showcased at a private event in Brooklyn, is a manifestation of Monét’s creative evolution and deep connection to the community.

Monét’s fashion narrative began last fall with a standout piece—a poplin skirt layered with tulle that quickly gained traction. This garment, now known as the brand’s Little Black Skirt, laid the foundation for her debut collection.

The skirt, described as playful yet declarative, embodies the essence of Monét’s artistic vision and has become a symbol of the brand’s evolving iconography.

The collection’s launch, hosted in the converted retail space of designer Yara Flinn, featured Monét’s garments as almost sculptural elements, complementing the intimate ambiance of the event.

“A Brooklyn Love Story” comprises thirteen sustainably crafted, unisex pieces, each designed to capture the multidimensional aspects of love—from romance to self-affirmation.

Monét, a Brooklyn-based designer originally from upstate New York, draws inspiration from her personal experiences and the vibrant Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.

Her collection features structured, tailored garments that offer fluidity and confidence. Key pieces include the Karla Top, a structured bralette inspired by vintage balconette bras and crafted from cream and black Japanese cotton or luxurious red silk, and the Kravitz Pant, a versatile trouser made from Japanese wool that combines comfort with a powerful, confident silhouette.

The collection’s color palette—jet black, off-white, and fiery red—embodies the emotional spectrum of romance, from intense passion to quiet possibility. Each garment incorporates rose motifs, symbolizing the multifaceted nature of love.

Monét’s training with renowned designers such as Christopher John Rogers has honed her skills in seam artistry, evident in the meticulous craftsmanship of her collection. Her work is a testament to the impact of community and personal connections, as many of her collaborators and inspirations came from her experiences in Brooklyn.

The debut collection was preceded by a digital campaign creative directed by Monét and Ondrea Wheeler, reflecting the collection’s themes of desire and relational dynamics.

Through her designs, Monét explores how love and self-acceptance can be expressed and celebrated through fashion.

Tatiana Monét’s debut collection invites wearers to embrace and express their own stories of affection, blending sustainable practices with a deep-seated appreciation for the transformative power of love.
