Nicole Dove, the Director of Security Engineering at Riot Games, is championing the exploration of career opportunities in cybersecurity.

With a focus on adapting to the rapid evolution of technology, Dove emphasizes the importance of embracing new advancements rather than fearing them.

Dove, who leads a global team of Business Information Security Officers (BISOs) at Riot Games, is a seasoned expert with 20 years of experience spanning audit, operations, and cybersecurity.

Her role involves aligning cybersecurity strategies with business objectives to ensure secure product development.

In an interview with Afrotech, Dove shared her passion for the field and her commitment to guiding others toward successful careers in cybersecurity.

“So many people are interested in working in cybersecurity but have no idea what the opportunities entail,” Dove explained.

She recounted her own journey into the field, noting that while cybersecurity was not her initial interest, she found a deep passion for helping others succeed.

“I love helping people WIN. Winners never quit, and quitters never win,” Dove wrote. “Seeing the light bulb go off when someone is inspired by my journey and can see themselves in my shoes is really where the heart work is for me.

Dove’s contributions extend beyond her role at Riot Games. She is the host and producer of the “Urban Girl Corporate World” and “Women in Security and Privacy” podcasts, and offers a series of cyber-focused LinkedIn Learning courses. Additionally, Dove has lent her voice to two “Grand Theft Auto” games, showcasing her diverse talents.

In her view, understanding how to think like a hacker is as crucial as outsmarting them. She advocates for attending events like the Afrotech Conference in November, which she believes provides essential networking, learning, and recruitment opportunities for aspiring tech professionals.

The 2024 Afrotech Conference will feature panels led by industry leaders from companies such as Intel, Google, and Vanguard, among others.

Attendees will have the chance to hear from Dove and other experts about the myriad career paths available in cybersecurity. Ticket options range from General Admission to Corporate and Executive tiers, with special pricing for students.

For more information on attending the 2024 Afrotech Conference and to gain insights from Nicole Dove on cybersecurity careers, visit the conference’s official website.
