Peep The Resemblance: Brandy Handpicks Halle Bailey For Her Biopic

Brandy has revealed her preferred actor to play her in a potential biopic. In a recent interview, Brandy expressed her admiration for Halle Bailey, the talented singer and actress best known for her performance as Ariel in Disney’s live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid.”

Brandy and Halle Bailey have more in common than just their incredible talent. Both have played iconic Disney characters. Cinderella and Ariel, played by Brandy and Halle, respectively, have traditionally been portrayed as white characters, and both actresses have been praised for bringing diversity to these beloved roles.

In a 2020 Billboard interview, Brandy was asked about her thoughts on Halle’s portrayal of Ariel in The Little Mermaid, given that she has previously played the role. In the late 1990s, Brandy made history as the first Black actress to play Cinderella in ABC’s television adaptation of the Disney classic.

“She needs to keep positive people around her, stay positive, and not live her life for anyone but herself. And I mean that in a way where sometimes, in this industry, we can get caught up in what everybody thinks that we should do,” Brandy encouraged the “Angel” singer.

“I believe that her staying true to herself is the reason why she’s in a great position to do all of the things that she’s meant to do,” she added. “I just wish her all the best,”

The 45-year-old continued, “I absolutely love Halle and Chlöe. I see so much of myself in Halle.”

During a recent interview with A24, Brandy disclosed she wants Halle Bailey to play her in a biopic. “Who would I cast as me in a film about my life? A few people come to mind, but from the top of the dome, Halle Bailey,” the R&B legend stated.

Brandy’s endorsement adds another recognition layer to Halle Bailey’s very promising career. If this biopic ever gets made, it will undoubtedly celebrate Brandy’s legacy and showcase Halle’s talent.
