Marietta Mbonye Inshuti’s story is one of resilience , determination , and triumph over adversity .

The young Ugandan woman , who was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness during her studies, recently made headlines when she graduated with a first-class degree in Mechanical Engineering from Makerere University .

In 2022 , during her third year of university, Marietta received devastating news : she had been diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer that attacks the B-cells, an essential part of the immune system.

For many, such a diagnosis would have led to a pause in their educational journey . But Marietta chose a different path.

Instead of deferring her studies to focus solely on her treatment , she bravely decided to continue her coursework while undergoing six grueling rounds of chemotherapy .

Marietta’s perseverance paid off. In July 2022, she completed her treatment and has been in complete remission since April.

Her determination saw her through the toughest battle of her life and earned her the top honor in her academic pursuit. Graduating with a first-class degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marietta has inspired many.

Reflecting on her journey in a heartfelt Twitter post, Marietta shared :

“By this time in 2022, I had just been diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma during my 3rd year of uni… I am completely healed.”

Her story has resonated deeply on social media , where users have expressed admiration and support for her incredible resilience.

    One user, @sbadnose, commented:

“Wow!!! If this doesn’t inspire someone out there, nothing will ! May God continue to bless you. What a resilient, intelligent, and beautiful young lady you are!”

    Another added:

“We love reading success stories like this. Happy you graduated. I’m happy you got healed, too.”

Marietta’s journey is a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit . Despite the seemingly insurmountable challenges she faced, she remained focused on her goals and emerged victorious—both in her battle against cancer and in her academic achievements .
