Angel Reese Chooses Surgery After Wrist Injury May Make Her ‘Not Play Anymore’

“Small crack in my bone,” WNBA sensation Angel Reese has stunned fans as she shared the news of a wrist injury that has abruptly cut her season short.

Due to a season-ending wrist injury, Angel Reese missed her first game as a Chicago Sky player on Sunday, September 8. The 22-year-old watched from the sidelines as her team defeated the Dallas Wings 92-77 for their second consecutive victory.

After a fantastic rookie season in the WNBA that included numerous records broken, a WNBA All-Star appearance, and the league’s leading rebounder, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has officially ended her season.

In a recent social media post, Reese shared details of the injury and her decision to opt for surgery.

“Hey, y’all, let me just answer a few questions because you keep asking, and I want you to really know and have some idea of what’s going on with me,” Reese said. “So, y’all know I hurt my wrist, so I am off for this season.”

She disclosed that the damage to her wrist, while minor in appearance, could have long-term consequences if not treated properly.

“I fell on my hand, and there is a small crack in my bone,” she shared. “The doctors told me that I could either not get surgery or have surgery. The risk of not having surgery: I can literally have arthritis. At 22 years old? That wasn’t an option.”

The basketball phenom described the crack as “small, like a hairline,” but stressed the severity of the injury. Reese explained that doctors presented her with two options: to avoid surgery and risk developing arthritis at a young age. She also disclosed that doctors warned that without surgery, the injury would worsen over time, compromising her ability to continue playing at a high level.

Faced with such a daunting choice, Reese ultimately decided that surgery was the best course of action.

Reese will undergo surgery on Tuesday and will be in a hard cast for four weeks, followed by a soft cast for two weeks. She hopes to return to normal life within six weeks.
