Tyra Banks Returns to the Victoria’s Secret Runway After Nearly 20 Years

Tyra Banks is back! The iconic supermodel is making a spectacular return to the Victoria’s Secret runway after nearly two decades, following her final walk in 2005.

Known for being one of the most groundbreaking models of her generation, Banks has had an illustrious career that spans fashion, television, and business, and now she’s gearing up for a much-anticipated comeback in the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Tyra Banks made history in 1997 as the first Black woman to grace the cover of a Victoria’s Secret catalogue, marking the beginning of her legendary run as a Victoria’s Secret Angel.

She dominated the catwalk in nine fashion shows for the brand before retiring from the modeling world.

However, Banks remained a prominent figure in entertainment, building her empire by hosting television shows, producing, acting, and even creating her own ice cream brand.

Now, in an exclusive interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Banks expressed her excitement about returning to her roots.

“I never in a million years thought that I would be back on the runway,” she said. “But I am so beyond excited and so ready for this.”

Banks’ return is set to be one of the highlights of the Victoria’s Secret show, which is slated to take place on Oct. 15 at the brand’s flagship store in New York City.

Victoria’s Secret’s fashion show has undergone a major transformation in recent years, with a new, more inclusive format that began in 2023.

Banks is especially thrilled to return during a time of increased diversity within the brand. Reflecting on her own journey, she shared:

“I feel like I cracked [the door] open, and now they’ve burst it wide open, which is beautiful. It’s exciting to see the continuation of beauty and diversity.”

Banks has been preparing intensely, even admitting to wearing heels while driving her son to school.

“I got a herniated disk, but ain’t nobody gonna know. I am ready,” she laughed.

In addition to Banks’ comeback, the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will feature headlining performances from Cher, Tyla, and Blackpink’s Lisa, promising an unforgettable event.

Banks’ influence extends far beyond the runway. Over the years, she has mentored several supermodels and takes pride in seeing their success.

“I used to tell them, ‘We’re not coming empty-handed. We’re going to chart out your path because it’s a strategy. It’s not about who’s the prettiest. It’s about your authenticity.’” She added that she’s excited to be backstage at the show, offering advice to the new generation of models.

While this might be Banks’ return to modeling, she’s open to exploring new opportunities afterward.

“I’m getting a lot of incoming offers, but I’m not doing anything until I step on that Victoria’s Secret runway first,” she said.

Fans are eager to see her walk the runway and are hoping for even more appearances from the supermodel in the future.
