Malika Williams Is Transforming A Shuttle into Mobile Mentoring Hub for Underserved Youth

Malika Williams, the founder of The L.I.V.E Outreach and a Detroit native, is spearheading a groundbreaking initiative to renovate a 14-passenger shuttle into a Mobile Mentoring Hub.

This unique project aims to provide educational support and mentorship to youth in foster care and underserved communities across the city.

The L.I.V.E Outreach, founded by Williams in 2014, has a clear mission: to refresh, renew, and revive disadvantaged youth by offering assistance with housing, financial literacy, career development, and life skills training.

Williams, who herself grew up in Detroit’s foster care system and faced immense challenges as a teen mother with felony charges, is driven by her personal journey of overcoming adversity. Her experiences have shaped her deep commitment to uplifting her community.

In celebration of The L.I.V.E Outreach’s 10th anniversary, the organization recently gave away 60 bicycles and 80 kites to families in need on Detroit’s east side. Now, Williams is setting her sights on her next major initiative—the Mobile Mentoring Hub.

“The Mobile Mentoring Hub will be a lifeline for many individuals,” Williams explains. “With a focus on education and mentorship, we believe in the power of community support to drive positive change.”

The shuttle’s renovation will transform it into a fully functional, mobile educational space, offering mentorship programs, skills training, and access to vital resources.

The project is aimed at ensuring youth and individuals in need can have access to a safe, welcoming environment for learning and personal growth.

A Call for Community Support

To bring the Mobile Mentoring Hub to life, The L.I.V.E Outreach is seeking to raise $150,000 for the renovation costs. The funds will be used for:

• Vehicle Renovation: Upgrading the interior design, seating, and workspaces to create a comfortable and functional learning environment.
• Technology Enhancements: Installing new computers, interactive whiteboards, and Wi-Fi for modern learning experiences.
• Safety and Accessibility Improvements: Ensuring the hub is secure and accessible to all community members.
• Educational Resources: Expanding the collection of books, educational materials, and workshop supplies.

Fundraising Launch Event

Williams and her team are hosting a special fundraising event on Thursday, Oct. 31 at United Skates of America in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Attendees can enjoy a fun “spooktacular” skating event while learning more about the Mobile Mentoring Hub and how their contributions can make a lasting impact. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

Donations to support the project can be made through The L.I.V.E Outreach website, and the organization is also seeking corporate sponsorships, in-kind donations, and volunteer support.
