Talecka Brown, a 32-year-old mother from Maryland, has been arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder after allegedly shooting her 13-year-old daughter.

The shocking incident unfolded on Sept 23, when police responded to reports of a shooting at the family’s home in Seat Pleasant, Maryland.

According to the Seat Pleasant Police Department’s statement, officers arrived at the scene to find the teenage girl suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Authorities revealed that Brown used a firearm within the home to shoot her daughter following an argument that escalated into physical violence.

Court documents indicate that the 13-year-old girl told police her mother shot her as she was walking down the stairs after their altercation.

The girl also reported that Brown instructed her to lie to authorities by saying an intruder had broken into the home and shot her. Police noted conflicting statements from Brown when they arrived at the scene.

On Tuesday, Sept. 24, Brown was officially charged with first-degree attempted murder along with other charges.

She appeared in court the following day, requesting home detention, which was denied. The judge ordered Brown to remain in custody without bond.

As of Wednesday, Sept. 25, the teenage victim was reportedly in stable condition, able to walk around her hospital unit, though doctors are still concerned that her injury could result in paralysis.

The emotional trauma from this violent incident will also likely leave lasting effects.

Assistant Prince George’s County State’s Attorney, Ashley Sowls, revealed that during a jailhouse phone call to the girl’s father, Brown showed little concern for her daughter’s wellbeing.

Instead, Brown suggested that the charges would disappear if their daughter did not appear in court.

Talecka Brown’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 25, and she has yet to enter a plea.
