NY men face burglary charges for car break-ins at NJ parks
A pair of New York City men has been accused of a series of car burglaries at two park areas, roughly 20 miles apart in New Jersey. The arrests of 28-year-old Jose Cabanzo-Pena and 32-year-old Luis Eduardo Pena-Garzon, both of Queens, involved police in Bernards Township and Hillsborough, as well as the office of Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald.
Justice for Ellie: NJ sicko gets max prison for sex-torture of cat
ASBURY PARK — A man who admitted to sexually torturing and killing his pet cat received a maximum five-year sentence in prison. Bani Mezquititla, 19, of Asbury Park, was arrested in March 2023 after a "concerned citizen" brought a dead cat to Asbury Park police headquarters, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago. The cat named Ellie belonged to Mezquititla and had suffered greatly before its death.
Truck explosion destroys residential sound wall along NJ Route 3
CLIFTON — A truck explosion obliterated a sound barrier along Route 3 and melted the siding of a house Monday morning. Route 3 was closed in both directions where the highway meets Route 46 and passes over Valley Road in Clifton after the tractor-trailer went up in flames around 9 a.m. The highway remained closed as of 11:45 a.m.
NJ woman sues Wawa after falling into dangerous hole
FLORENCE — A woman who says she fell into an open manhole in a Wawa parking lot has filed a lawsuit against the company. Courtney Barlow, 20, of Ewing, said she suffered permanent injury after the fall in the Route 130 store parking on Oct. 22, 2023, according to the lawsuit, which NJ.com first reported this week.
