A new study reveals that Idaho is the state where people are least likely to move away, with about 1,360 new residents for every 100,000 people each year.

Florida shines as the state with the highest quality of life among the top ten. Meanwhile, Delaware ranks fifth for having the lowest cost of living.

This study, done by Rocket Moving, looked at all 50 states to find out which ones people are happiest to stay in.

It considered factors like migration patterns, happiness scores, quality of life, cost of living, and average rent.

The researchers gathered data from the U.S. Census and World Population Review, then calculated the total migration rates for each state over one year to create their rankings.

Here is the summary of the findings:

The number one state where people don’t want to leave is Idaho, which sees about 1,360 new residents for every 100,000 people each year.

It also has one of the highest happiness rankings among the top ten states. However, living in Idaho can be pricey, with the average rent reaching about $2,073.

South Carolina is the second state where people don’t want to leave, with about 1,233 new residents for every 100,000 people. In the last three years, over 248,000 people moved there from other states. While it doesn’t rank as high as Idaho for quality of life, it is more affordable to live in South Carolina.

Montana comes in third, attracting 1,125 new residents per 100,000 people. The total number of people moving to Montana is 48,444, which is less than in South Carolina or Idaho. The cost of living in Montana is similar to Idaho, but rent is cheaper, averaging around $1,800.

Florida is in fourth place, with 1,099 new residents per 100,000 people. It has the fifth-highest quality of life ranking and the most international residents, although the number of people moving there from other states is still much higher.

Delaware ranks fifth, with 1,015 newcomers per 100,000 residents each year. It has a higher happiness ranking than Florida or Montana and the lowest average rent at $1,610.

In sixth place is Arizona, which welcomes 836 new residents per 100,000 people. It ranks 21st in quality of life, just above Idaho, but has a higher cost of living and rent. Over the past three years, 218,000 more people have moved to Arizona than left.

Maine is seventh, with 831 new residents per 100,000 people. It has the highest cost of living among these states, but rent is more affordable than in Arizona or Florida. Maine ranks 25th in quality of life, just above South Carolina.

North Carolina takes eighth place, with 801 new residents per 100,000 people. It has the second-highest quality of life, just behind Florida, and is one of the most affordable states, with a cost of living below the national average.

Tennessee is ninth, welcoming 766 new residents per 100,000 people. It has the most affordable cost of living on this list, with average rent only $10 higher than in North Carolina.

Finally, Texas ranks tenth, with 672 new residents per 100,000 people. It is the second most affordable state on the list, with average rent at $1,886, which is cheaper than in Arizona or Florida.

Texas has fewer international newcomers compared to Florida, with 164,062 more people moving to Texas from other countries than Texas residents moving abroad.
