’16 and Pregnant’ Alums Who Have Died Since Appearing on the MTV Show

Several '16 and Pregnant' alums have died since appearing on the MTV show, including Sean Garinger and Autumn Crittendon.

Gone too soon. MTV’s 16 and Pregnant documents the lives of young parents-to-be. Some of the teen moms and dads who’ve appeared on the reality series have gone on to have gone on to live happy lives. Others have struggled. And several have tragically died, including Autumn Crittendon, Jordan Cashmyer, and Sean Garinger.

Autumn Crittendon

Autumn Crittendon from MTV’s 16 and Pregnant died in July 2024 at age 27.

Police and paramedics responded to an emergency call at a home in Henrico, Virginia, on July 20, Deadline reported. Crittendon was found unresponsive. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are investigating the death.

Crittendon (who was also known as Autumn Oxley) appeared on 16 and Pregnant Season 5 in 2014 with her then-boyfriend Dustin Franklin. She gave birth to a boy named Drake. Crittendon later went on to have two more children.

Sean Garinger

Sean Garinger appeared on 16 and Pregnant in 2021 with his then-girlfriend, Selena Gutierrez. He died in February 2024.

The 20-year-old was fatally injured in an ATV accident at his home in Boone, North Carolina. Garinger was moving the vehicle when “the ground gave way from all the rain and mud,” causing the ATV to flip, his mother, Mary Hobbs, told the U.S. Sun. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, TMZ recently reported.

Garinger was survived by his mother, two daughters with Gutierrez, and several siblings. He and Gutierrez were not together at the time of his death.

Jordan Cashmyer

Jordan Cashmyer died in January 2022 at age 26. The cause was fentanyl and cocaine intoxication, ET reported.

Cashmyer appeared with her boyfriend Derek Taylor on 16 and Pregnant in 2014. The couple welcomed a daughter named Genevieve on the show, which also highlighted Cashmyer’s complicated relationship with her family and struggles with homelessness and unemployment.

Valerie Fairman ​​

Valerie ​​Fairman died in December 2016 at age 23 of an apparent drug overdose.

Fairman and her boyfriend Matt appeared in season 2 of 16 and Pregnant, which highlighted the birth of their daughter, Nevaeh. She led a troubled life after her appearance on the reality TV show, including arrests for allegedly beating up her adoptive mother, prostitution, resisting arrest, and providing false ID to law enforcement, People reported.

Derek Underwood

Derek Underwood died in a car accident in 2008. Although Underwood did not appear on 16 and Pregnant, Farrah Abraham, who was pregnant with his child at the time of his death, was prominently featured on the show. She gave birth to their daughter, Sophia, two months after his death and later went on to star in multiple seasons of 16 and Pregnant spinoff Teen Mom.
