Kate Middleton has laid low publicly for the better part of the past eight months after revealing a cancer diagnosis in January 2024. Although the Princess of Wales has popped up on social media and at two high-profile events, she has remained out of sight. However, a royal reporter claims she is ready to make a “steely” return to the public eye.

‘Steely character’ Kate Middleton’s cancer fight

Since January, Kate Middleton has kept a low profile as she has battled cancer. In an emotional video released on social media in March 2024, Kate Middleton discussed her health and revealed she was undergoing treatment for the disease.

Since then, Kate has appeared publicly only twice. First, she stepped out at Trooping the Color and then as a spectator and trophy presenter at Wimbledon.

Royal commentator Phil Dampier believes the United Kingdom’s future queen has an “inner core of steel,” which will prepare her for a full-time royal return. To The Sun , he compared her to a late senior royal with many of the same attributes.

“I think Kate has got a sort of inner core of steel. She’s quite a sort of steely character, and I think she’s a bit reminds me a little bit of late, Prince Philip,” Dampier explained.

“I think she’s got a sort of inner strength, and she’s very much pulled on those reserves, and I think that of the two, she’s probably the stronger character, even though she’s the one who’s got the illness. In many ways, she will be the stronger of the two [ with Prince William ] in getting through it, and mainly, of course, she wants to be strong for her children.”

Dampier believes that Kate is trying to show her children that “she’s going to be okay.” He added that William and her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, will follow her lead.

Kate Middleton’s return to public duties depends on current medical advice from her team of doctors. As part of her last public update, Kate revealed she was undergoing treatment, but since then, has not further elaborated on whether or not this treatment has ended.

Royal commentator Phil Dampier believes that the timeline for Kate’s return is sooner rather than later. He thinks her health has taken a positive turn.

“It’s a very good sign that we’ve seen Kate twice in recent weeks, first at Trooping the Color and then at Wimbledon, so clearly she’s a lot better,” Dampier explains. “It indicates that she is clearly on the mend, and hopefully, she’ll be back in action in a month or so, in the autumn.”

However, for the foreseeable future, Kate will remain with her family at Balmoral, the late Queen’s Scottish retreat. The royal family typically gathers for a month in late summer to unwind and spend time together.

Royal biographer Angela Levin told GB News that Kate’s decision to go to Balmoral marks a turning point in her recovery. She explained, “This is a huge move. Not only because she is obviously not well yet but also because she feels very comfortable with the royal family. She is very happy with the King [Charles] and the Queen [Camilla Parker Bowles], and she knows they will understand if she has to rest.”

Prince William was reportedly ‘shocked’ over Kate’s cancer diagnosis

The news that Kate Middleton was diagnosed with cancer was a great shock to her husband of 13 years , Prince William. The couple share the parenting of their three young children.

“I’m sure William was very shocked when when Kate was first diagnosed with cancer. Because anyone of that age to be diagnosed, it’s clearly a tremendous shock and a great worry,” Phil Dampier said.

William’s devotion to his wife’s health was apparent. He stepped back from royal duties to focus on Kate’s recovery.

When William did return to his royal role, it was on an abbreviated schedule so he could be there for not only his wife but also their children. The future king put his responsibilities to his family above those to the crown, a new direction for the future head of the House of Windsor.

Kate Middleton’s June health update stated her cancer treatment was ongoing and would continue for several months. She said she would take the summer to “heal.”
