The film was honored across the board by the BAFTA’s, the Golden Globes, the Director’s Guild of America, the SAG Awards, and the American Film Institute Awards, to name a few of its accolades. However, on this night, Affleck reportedly hoped to score his second golden statuette since 1998. Affleck and Matt Damon won Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting .

After Argo was announced for the night’s most prestigious award, Best Picture, Affleck took the stage with the film’s producers and stars. Jennifer Garner beamed at her husband ‘s achievement from the audience.

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the couple wrote. “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”

Affleck and Garner filed nearly two years after announcing their split in June 2015. However, they continue to co-parent their children, ensuring they were always put first ahead of any problems they had in their marriage.
