Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are officially calling it quits on their marriage. Lopez filed for divorce on Aug. 20, 2024 — the date of the couple’s second wedding anniversary in Georgia. Alex Rodriguez, Lopez’s old flame , posted a cryptic quote to Instagram that seemed to point to Lopez’s split. Here’s what he wrote.

Rodriguez got down on one knee for Lopez in 2019, but they broke up in 2021. Lopez rekindled her flame with Ben Affleck that same year and pursued a romance. Affleck and Lopez tied the knot in 2022 and are now divorcing in 2024.

On Aug. 20, 2024, Rodriguez posted to his Instagram Stories, “You either go one way or the other, you might as well be the one deciding the direction.” This is the same day that Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck.

Rodriguez didn’t expand on the post, but it seems to point to Lopez’s past decisions. A source told E! News that Rodrigues was “shocked” when Lopez moved on so quickly from their romance to Affleck.

“A.Rod is shocked that J.Lo has moved on,” the source told the publication in 2021. “He truly thought they would be able to make it work and reconnect. He has been reaching out to J.Lo trying to meet with her and she has been very short with him.”

The insider added that Lopez has no interest in rekindling a romance with Rodriguez.

A source told In Touch Weekly that Lopez loved living in New York when she dated Rodriguez, and she’s “even starting to miss what she had with him.”

“He’s got a girlfriend now, but J. Lo doesn’t intend to stay single long, and she and A.Rod do have unfinished business,” the source explained.

It’s unclear where Lopez will end up post-divorce from Affleck. The insider noted that she hopes to move back to New York full-time. During the summer of 2024, Lopez spent an entire month in the Hamptons while Affleck stayed in Los Angeles. Lopez also held her 55th birthday party in New York.

“For all his faults, they did have an intense connection; he was devastated when they split up,” the source continued. “He insists he’s happier now without her, but they have a lot of mutual friends that aren’t so convinced, and he’s not married or engaged, so at this point, it’s not beyond the realm that they could reconnect.”
