Prince William and Kate Middleton’s only daughter, Princess Charlotte , has a hidden talent that Princess Diana would approve of. Like her late grandmother, Charlotte loves ballet and has taken classes for years.

Princess Charlotte has an interest in ballet, just like Princess Diana

Princess Charlotte reportedly takes private ballet classes at a dance school in south London. “My daughter Charlotte likes dancing. She loves ballet and tap,” Kate Middleton said, according to Hello! Magazine. “Keep up the dancing.”

People Magazine reported in 2023 that Charlotte, Prince Louis, and Prince George take performing arts classes at Lambrook School, which has a dance studio. In the past, Charlotte’s mother, Kate, has taken her to see The Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House in central London.

However, it isn’t only dance that Charlotte enjoys as an extracurricular activity. She also plays soccer and rugby, according to People. But her love of dance intrinsically links her to her grandparent , the late Princess Diana.

The late Princess of Wales always dreamed of dancing with the Royal Ballet. However, she grew too tall to perform with the troupe.

Still, she always danced around Althorp House, and photos depicted in Diana: Her True Story show her in her yard, practicing en pointe. Her father, Earl Spencer, took these images.

When she moved to Buckingham Palace, Diana continued to practice dance. In the Channel 4 documentary Diana: In Her Own Words , Anne Allan shared some inside information about Diana. She claimed that dancing helped Diana deal with the stress of royal life.

The Sun shared Allan’s comments in the documentary. She explained, “When I first met her, you could see that there was a huge shyness. But over time, as we went through our dance class, I realized how much dance meant to her.”

Allan continued that Diana “had dance in her soul. I realized the pure enjoyment that it gave her. She loved the freeness of being able to move and dance. She loved it. I could see it helped to alleviate her emotional life. That was hard for her at that time.”

Diana regularly attended ballet performances. She enjoyed meeting the performers and speaking with them at the conclusion of their dances. In fact, she once joined them on stage as a surprise for her husband Prince Charles.

In front of an audience of 2,500 at the Royal Opera House in London, Princess Diana appeared on stage to dance to the Billy Joel song “Uptown Girl.” She took the stage alongside male dancer Wayne Sleep.

Sleep said in an interview with 48 Hours that no one was the wiser when Diana took the stage. He explained that he signaled to her from the stage, and she quietly stepped away from Prince Charles, who likely thought his wife had to use the restroom.

“The music started, Billy Joel’s ‘Uptown Girl’ came up, and nobody knew. She came out, stopped, and looked at the audience beautifully,” Sleep recounted.

“There was a gasp from the audience of 2,500 people, who took an intake of breath all at the same time. They were speechless,” Sleep recalled.

“She was on fire. She took it, embraced it,” the dance pro concluded.

Princess Diana never got to share her love of dance with her granddaughter. She died at the age of 36 in Paris, France, in a car accident in August 1997. Princess Charlotte was born in 2015.
