1 Royal Is Prepared to Make a Historic Move to Follow in Queen Elizabeth’s Footsteps — and It’s Not Who You Think

Queen Elizabeth II might be a hard act to follow, but her family members want to be just like her. Now, one surprising royal is thinking of following in the queen’s footsteps in a major way.

The late Queen Elizabeth II held many accomplishments in her life, both inside and outside of the royal family. She was the reigning monarch for more than 70 years — many people don’t remember a world before she was queen. She took her duties very seriously, becoming queen at the young age of 25 after her father’s death.

Now, it seems that another royal wants to follow in the late queen’s footsteps by taking on a task that few royal women have done — and it’s not who you think.

Lady Louise Windsor wants to join the military like her grandmother Queen Elizabeth II

There has not been a female British royal who has served in the military since the late queen. She was, surprisingly, the first royal woman who ever served as a full-time member of the British military. Back when she was still Princess Elizabeth, the queen served in the Auxiliary Territorial Services, which she joined during World War II. Nobody has served after her, though all of the royal men directly in line for the throne have spent time doing military duties.

Now, rumor has it that Lady Louise Windsor, who is the daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, is said to be considering a career in the military. According to Express, a source close to the 20-year-old granddaughter of the late queen said, “[Louise] talks about being very keen on a career in the military, serving the king and country. She is all about the Army Cadets and has fallen in love with it.”

Louise has hinted at her growing interest in the British military. Express also reports that the royal’s LinkedIn page says that she is “interested in pursuing a career in the military, diplomacy, or law.”

Many royal family members have served in the military

If Louise joins the British military, it will be a milestone due to the fact that so few female royals have served for their country. However, among the men, it’s quite common. Prince Harry, Louise’s cousin and the son of King Charles, actually completed two full tours in Afghanistan, having spent quite a bit of time in the military. Prince William, Harry’s older brother, was a helicopter pilot in the military.

Of course, it’s not been confirmed that Louise will follow in her grandmother’s footsteps. She is still of college age and has some time to decide before she completes her degree. But time will tell if she becomes the next female royal to take on a military role.
