What Will Pippa Middleton’s Title Be When Sister Kate Is Queen?

Title changes are one of the things guaranteed for several members of the royal family . This could be due to a marriage, the death of another royal who once held a certain title, or even just something bestowed upon another family member at an appropriate time.

For example, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married they became the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. And when Queen Elizabeth II died , her oldest son became King Charles III. Then as the monarch, Charles bestowed the Prince and Princess of Wales titles onto his son, Prince William, and his daughter-in-law ( previously known as Kate Middleton ). The king later upgraded his sister-in-law, Sophie ( previously the Countess of Wessex ), and brother, Prince Edward’s titles to the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

But what about Kate’s relatives who are closely related to Britain’s future queen like her sister, Pippa Middleton? Will she get a title when Kate ascends the throne? Here’s the answer to that, plus the new title the Waleses’ children will have when their father is the king.

Will Pippa get a title when Kate is William’s Queen Consort?

When we think of a queen’s sister, Princess Margaret (later the Countess of Snowdon) may come to mind. She, of course, was Queen Elizabeth II’s sibling and had a title. Therefore, some think Pippa would receive one when her sister is the queen. But those cases are totally different. Margaret was born a princess and a blood member of the royal family which is why she had a title from birth. The Middleton sisters grew up as commoners.

According to Hello! , “It would be unprecedented for Pippa to receive a title simply because her sister is Queen Consort.” The publication noted that Queen Camilla’s sister, Annabel Elliot, was however, appointed as one of “the Queen’s Companions” which is the equivalent to her “ladies in waiting.”

But don’t feel too bad for Pippa because she will have a title of her own one day, it just has nothing to do with when her sister becomes queen. Pippa’s husband, James Matthews, is set to inherit his father’s title as Laird of Glen Affric, which will then make Pippa’s title Lady of Glen Affric.

The family members who will get new titles when Kate is queen

So which royal family members will receive title changes when William and Kate are king and queen? That would be their oldest son, Prince George, and their daughter, Princess Charlotte.

Following the death of their great-grandmother when their parents were bestowed the Prince and Princess of Wales title, William and Kate’s children went from Prince George of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, and Prince Louis of Cambridge to using the Wales title and are now officially known as Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales, and Prince Louis of Wales.

When their parents are crowned, it’s expected that George will be given his father’s current Prince of Wales title. It’s also believed that their daughter would get the Princess Royal title currently held by her great aunt Princess Anne. However, two people cannot hold that title at the same time so it could only bestowed upon Charlotte after Anne has passed.

Whether or not Prince Louis would be given a new title depends on a couple of things. One is if he is married by the time his parents become heads of state and already has a dukedom. If not, per tradition, the title Duke of York would go to the monarch’s second-oldest son as Prince Andrew has it now. But just like with the Princess Royal, only one family member can hold the title at a time so it also depends on if his great uncle is still alive when William and Kate become king and queen.
