Jennifer Garner Once Shared Every Man on the ‘Elektra’ Set Gathered to Watch Her Kiss Co-Star

Jennifer Garner was introduced to a few new experiences playing the superhero Elektra . Not only did she end up headlining her own superhero movie, but she kissed another woman for the first time onscreen. And it was an experience she never forgot.

Garner played the Marvel character Elektra twice in the 2000s. She was first seen in the role in the 2004 Daredevil . Afterwards, Garner reprised the superhero in her titular feature Elektra, which would follow her character’s own independent journey. But perhaps one of the film’s most memorable moments to some was seeing Garner make out with Elektra co-star Natassia Malthe. She reflected on the experience in an interview with Pride Source . According to the Alias alum , it was a moment that many on set were eager to see.

“It was a great kiss,” she remembered. “I was like, ‘Oh, I get it. Women are softer. No wonder women kiss women.’ But she also, at the time, had bronchitis, and I remember I was in the middle of a really intense production cycle. So that’s my personal memory of it. Besides that, it was very fun and every man from the studio who I’d never met or heard from or seen before showed up on set to watch that day.”

Garner quipped that it didn’t matter what sexuality the men were, they all showed up.

“The gay men, the straight men – they just all suddenly were like, ‘Yeah, we just came for a set visit in the middle of nowhere, in British Columbia,’” she added.

If circumstances were different, Elektra might not have been the only film where Garner would be seen kissing another woman. It was mentioned during the interview that she was once tapped to play a Lesbian character in a 1996 film.

“I was meant to do this HBO movie forever ago called If These Walls Could Talk , but I was doing a different job at the same time and they wouldn’t let me cut my hair and If These Walls Could Talk wouldn’t let me wear a wig. But yeah, it was that. I was so excited too,” she said.

Malthe wasn’t the only actor Garner would kiss as Elektra . She and her co-star Ben Affleck played superhero lovers in Daredevil , which meant engaging in their own intimate scenes. As is usually the case with onscreen kissing scenes, however, Garner found their sequence a bit uncomfortable.

“It’s fine. It was just part of the scene and it’s no bigger deal than kissing anyone else. It’s always awkward when you kiss someone you’ve become friends with on set because you don’t realize what a boundary it is and what an unspoken thing it is, how intimate a kiss is,” she once told Comic Book Resources . “At the same time, of course there are fifty people around, maybe a hundred people around and that does wipe away any notions you might have of any…”

Still, Garner joked that kissing Affleck lived up to expectations and thensome.

“I never gave it a thought one way or another, but it’s a pleasure to snog Ben Affleck and if he showed up right now I guess we could show you how very good we are at that very thing,” she said.
