Each year fans gather outside Buckingham Palace to catch a glimpse of the royal family when they make an appearance on the balcony during the Trooping the Colour to celebrate the reigning monarch’s official birthday.

It’s also a time for the adult royals to pay close attention and make sure their little ones don’t fall from the balcony. Now, a video making the rounds shows one of Prince George ‘s balcony appearance during Trooping the Colour when he leaned over a little too far, leading to a moment of panic before his parents grabbed him avoiding anything tragic.

The clip also reminded some royal watchers of a time when Prince William was around that age and ran straight to danger before his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II , came to the rescue.

The video posted to TikTok from the event is titled: “Little George almost fell at Trooping the Color 2016.”

The 15-second clip shows something catch George’s eye before he points and leans over. His mother, the Princess of Wales ( formerly known as Kate Middleton ) notices him first and tries to grab the future king with one hand as she holds Princess Charlotte in her other arm. Prince William then gets a hold of him as then-Prince Charles, Queen Elizabeth, and Camilla look on in horror. At one point Camilla even put out her hand and reached for George before his father pulled him back to safety.

So far the video has tens of thousands of views and more than 1,000 likes.

Throwback video shows the queen saving another future king

Prince William had his own brush with danger when he was a child and it was his grandmother who saved him.

The year was 1986 when William was a page boy in Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson ‘s wedding. Following their nuptials, the newlyweds got into a horse-drawn carriage while several other royals and well-wishers stood behind to see them off.

As the Duke and Duchess of York pulled away and waved to the crowds, an excited William started running after the carriage. The then 60-year-old monarch saw her grandson getting close to wheels of the carraige and was afraid he would get hurt so she quickly ran after him, grabbed his hand, and pulled him back next to her where he was safe.

Princess Margaret was also seen running and Princess Diana was nearby as well.

The old clip was reshared on X (formerly Twitter) and garnered over 1 million views and hundreds of comments. One person who recalled watching the wedding on TV when it aired nearly 40 years ago wrote: “I remember watching this live on television when Andrew and Fergie were leaving Buckingham Palace for their honeymoon. The comical part was, Princess Diana was to the left of Her Majesty in this video.

“Everyone started out walking slowly behind the carriage and when Princess Diana saw the queen start running, Diana thought the queen was running after the carriage and she followed her lead, not having a clue that the queen was running after William. When Diana realized the queen was running after William, she stopped dead in her tracks and immediately returned to walking slowly and never let on she had seen the exchange between her son and his grandmother.”
