Losing a loved one to death is incredibly hard for anyone including members of the royal family who mourned the loss of their matriarch, Queen Elizabeth II , as the whole world watched.
But the night before her funeral Prince Harry was so upset and angry that he was in tears for a reason besides his grandmother’s death . Read on to find out why.
Tensions between Sussexes and other royals were on display leading up to the funeral
There’s no denying that tensions were still high when the Sussexes returned to England for the queen’s funeral in 2022. And because everyone wanted to see how the duke and duchess would act around the Waleses, King Charles reportedly had the couples do that impromptu walkabout together at Windsor Castle to show unity and ensure that the focus wasn’t taken off his mother being laid to rest.
During the processions, Prince William and Harry walked side by side but completely ignored each other. And while the duke was busy with his part, Meghan wasn’t welcomed with open arms among the other royal ladies and some reporters took note of that.
Daily Mail editor Rebecca English spoke on the Palace Confidential podcast about the tensions when the royal family paid tribute to the late queen at Westminster Hall.
“A lot of what we saw happened off-camera because you weren’t allowed to pick up your cameras until they saw the coffin,” she said according to Express . “We had five to 10 minutes of just watching them. The body language was fascinating. You couldn’t help but notice the body language between the senior royals and Meghan from where we were standing. You could see that Camilla, Kate, and Sophie were together, and the body language was very comfortable between them.
“But then there was Meghan, and you could have almost fitted somebody else in that space. It spoke volumes. Even if you didn’t know what we all know that has happened over the past few years, you’d have turned up and thought, ‘that looks a bit odd; there’s something slightly wrong here.’”
Why Prince Harry became so infuriated that was in ‘tears’ the night before the funeral
The Sussxes were likely given the cold shoulder because they publicly aired out some of the royal family’s dirty laundry in interviews and took shots at them from across the pond on multiple occasions before the queen’s death. But there have been reports that despite that, Harry was still very upset at the way he and his wife were treated.
What really angered him and reportedly left him in tears is that their invitations to a reception were withdrawn after the Palace made it clear the event was for “working royals” and they did not meet that criteria. Being shunned by his family left the duke “absolutely furious and in tears,” according to reports.
Roya Nikkhah, royal editor for The Sunday Times , spoke to people who know Harry and revealed details about that.
She wrote: “The Sussexes also understood they would be at Buckingham Palace on the eve of the funeral alongside the rest of the royal family when Charles and Camilla hosted a reception for foreign heads of state. They were initially asked to the event but their invitations were later ‘rescinded’, with the Palace clarifying the event was for ‘working members of the royal family’ only.”
invite retracted bc they cannot be trusted around dignitaries!!!
