‘Blue Bloods’ Is Ending, But Donnie Wahlberg Isn’t Done With TV

Donnie Wahlberg is saying goodbye to Blue Bloods. But he’s not leaving TV behind entirely. The actor and New Kids on the Block member will host a new season of his true crime series Very Scary People for Investigation Discovery.

On Blue Bloods, Wahlberg plays an NYPD cop committed to keeping the city’s streets safe from criminals. On Very Scary People, he highlights real stories of disturbing crimes. “The series offers an expansive look into society’s most evil minds, revealing unprecedented insight into their twisted crimes through rare in-depth interviews and remarkable archival footage,” according to ID.

Very Scary People show premiered in 2019. Now, production is underway on eight new episodes. A premiere date for the new season hasn’t been announced.

“I cannot wait to dig in and start filming this next season of Very Scary People,” said Wahlberg, who is also an executive producer on the show. “These stories will leave true crime fans stunned as we unravel the depraved crimes and minds of frightening killers we haven’t considered before.”

The new season of Very Scary People will profile several disturbing criminals, including Scott Kimball, a serial killer and FBI informant; Clarence Heatley, a drug kingpin who ran a criminal operation marked by dozens of vicious murders; and David Matusiewicz, who conspired to kidnap his own kids and waged a deadly campaign against his ex-wife.

While Wahlberg prepares for a new season of Very Scary People, he’s also getting ready to bid farewell to Blue Bloods, which will wrap up its 14th and final season this fall.

Walberg has played Danny Reagan on the CBS cop drama since 2010. In June, he posted an emotional message on Instagram about one of his last days on set.

“I’ve taken this walk thousands of times in 14 years and it was a teary final walk from the Blue Bloods dinner scene, last week,” he wrote. “More so than I could have ever imagined. Of course some sad tears — but mostly tears of immense humility. It’s been a wonderful adventure.”

The actor went on to say that, like many Blue Bloods fans, he wished the show could continue. At the same time, he was thankful for the time he did have on the series.

“My desire to carry on, however, is only surpassed by the amount of humility I feel for having been part of this wonderful journey at all,” he shared. “I’m so thankful. None of it came easy, but nothing good ever comes easy — and none of it would ever occur if we don’t allow ourselves to believe that our dreams can become reality. Nor would it happen without the support greatest fans ever, the greatest crew ever, in one of the greatest cities ever and one of the greatest law enforcement departments ever. Thank you Blue Bloods faithful. Til we meet again.”

Blue Bloods Season 14 Part 2 premieres Friday, Oct. 18 on CBS.
