Dave Grohl Called His Wife His ‘Future Ex-Wife’ on the 1st Day They Met

Dave Grohl told his wife she would be a major part of his life when they first met. Here's how she reacted to him.

When Dave Grohl and his wife, Jordyn Blum, met in 2001, he didn’t think he had a chance with her. It didn’t help that the musician referred to her as his “future ex-wife” in their first conversation. Blum didn’t seem to mind, though. When she gave him her number at the end of the night, she adopted the title.

Grohl and Blum met at a bar in 2001. He was there with his bandmate, Taylor Hawkins, when she and a friend approached the table.

“I met Jordyn one night in 2001. Taylor and I were hanging out at the Sunset Marquis whiskey bar,” he told Q Magazine (per Foo Archive). “Taylor was the looker. I mean, girls would send him drinks. Some bombshell comes up and starts talking to Taylor. I was just out of a Tenacious D session. I’ve got Vans trainers on, no socks, dirty shorts, and a dirty T-shirt, surrounded by beautiful Hollywood. She waved her friend Jordyn over. I was like, ‘Oh my God. Not a chance!’”

After several drinks, Grohl felt comfortable enough to refer to Blum as his “future ex-wife.” She took the comment in stride.

“So I’m just having some drinks and acting like a jack**,” he said. “And by the end of the night I was pissed and I’m staring at her going, ‘You’re my future ex-wife.’ [Laughs uproariously] So she gave me her number: ‘Jordyn, your future ex-wife.’”

Grohl and Blum went on a few dates, but he began to worry that things were getting too serious.

“When I first met my wife, we went out on a few dates and I decided that I wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, so I just stopped calling,” he told Elle. “After three months, I had a revelation and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, ‘Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.’”

They rekindled their relationship and, in 2003, married at their Los Angeles home. In the years since their wedding, they have welcomed three daughters.

Grohl and Blum’s relationship recently hit a rough patch. This week, he announced that he fathered a child outside their marriage.

“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,” he wrote on Instagram, adding, “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”

He requested privacy as his family navigated the situation.

“We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”

Blum has not yet commented on her husband’s infidelity.
