Meghan Markle Could Make Her First UK Appearance in Years as She and Prince Harry Receive an Invite to Family Christmas — But Not From King Charles

eghan Markle has avoided the UK for years due to a difficult relationship with Harry’s family as well as security concerns. But it’s possible she could make a return to Harry’s home country for Christmas.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not spent Christmas with the royal family since 2018. By 2019, Harry and Meghan were already heavily considering leaving the family, and they spent the last six weeks of that year in Canada while they planned their next move.

Since then, the two have remained in the United States for the holidays, and Meghan has not returned to the UK since 2022. But in a surprising turn of events, Meghan and Harry have received an invitation to spend Christmas in the UK in 2024 — but it didn’t come from King Charles.

Harry and Meghan have maintained a good relationship with many of Diana’s family members since they moved to the US. Harry reportedly stayed at the family’s home, named Althorp, while he was in town for his uncle’s funeral in August. And back in May, when Harry visited the UK for an Invictus Games ceremony, a number of Diana’s family members attended while nobody from the royal family made an appearance.

Now, Diana’s uncle, Charles Spencer, has reportedly offered to host Harry, Meghan, and their children at Althorp this year for Christmas, which would be Meghan’s first time visiting Harry’s home country in more than two years.

“It’s far too early to say whether they will take him up on it, but the offer is there if they want it,” a source told Express.

Of course, Harry has said in the past that he does not want to bring his wife and kids to the UK because there are security issues; the Sussexes were stripped of their royal security upon stepping down from their roles, and although Harry has fought to regain it, he has been unsuccessful.

It seems that this year, Diana’s family has stepped up for Harry when he needed support. They attended the ceremony for his Invictus Games, they offered Harry a place to stay when he was in town for the funeral, etc. Now, it looks like he might not need to spend another Christmas with the royals if he can return to the UK and instead spend holidays with family who truly want him present.

It’s still unclear whether Harry might accept the invite, along with his family, and what that would look like in terms of security. It is also still unknown whether the Sussexes would get together with the royal family for a moment while there, but time will unravel those answers.
