This month, police arrested Sean “Diddy” Combs on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. This comes months after federal agents raided his home and nearly a year after his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, filed a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault and physical abuse. Over two decades ago, Diddy predicted he might end up on the wrong side of the law. He shared why he thought he might get arrested.

For years, Diddy’s parties have been notorious amongst celebrities and major figures in the music industry. Since his arrest, these celebrity-packed parties, which he allegedly called “Freak Offs” have come under scrutiny. Diddy predicted this would happen in 1999.

“You’re gonna hear about my parties, they’re gonna be shuttin’ ’em down,” he told Entertainment Tonight at the time (via E! News ). “They’re gonna probably be arresting me, doing all types of crazy things just ‘cause we wanna have a good time.”

He said this wouldn’t stop him from hosting these parties.

“They won’t even give me a permit for the parties, man,” he said. “They don’t want me to throw the parties no more. But we ain’t gonna stop, we gonna keep on having fun. Bringing people together for all walks of life.”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is in a New York jail following his arrest

Following his arrest, Diddy is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The jail has a reputation for violence and poor conditions .

According to sources, Diddy is currently in a section of the jail reserved for detainees who require special protection. Per NBC News , this could refer to anyone from high-level inmates to those cooperating with ongoing investigations. Cryptocurrency entrepreneur Sam Bankman-Fried is currently in the same section of the jail.

If convicted, Diddy faces a sentence of life in prison. His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, is currently trying to appeal a judge’s decision to deny him bail.

“I’m not going to let him sit in that jail a day longer than he has to,” Agnifilo told CNN , adding, “He’s a stoic guy in his manner. He’s been through a lot in his life.”

Diddy’s most recent arrest is far from the first time he has landed in legal trouble. In 1999, he settled out of court following assault charges against Nas’ manager, Steve Stoute. That same year, he was at a Manhattan club when gunfire broke out following an argument he had with another patron. He was found not guilty.
