The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 is finally here, but the showrunners for the hit Netflix legal drama are looking ahead. They’ve already got plans for future seasons and “a sense” of where they could go for Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo).

‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Season 3 follows Mickey as he tries to solve Glory’s murder

A quick refresher on The Lincoln Lawyer . Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger with Haller learning his friend, Glory Days (Fiona Rene), who helped him with a case on season 1, had been murdered.

In season 3, the criminal defense lawyer is doing anything to get answers about what happened. Based on The Gods of Guilt , the fifth book in Michael Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer series, new episodes began streaming on Oct. 17, 2024.

Asked to tease the latest installment, Garcia-Rulfo told Esquire it’s an intense ride. “The stakes are much higher,” he said. “Every time I read a new episode script, I felt like it was the end of the season. You’re following the case of a close friend of Mickey’s, so it becomes more personal and more emotional.”

The season 3 finale gets ready for Michael Connelly’s next ‘Lincoln Lawyer’ book

Speaking to TV Insider , co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez discussed how the season 3 finale—no spoilers—primes the storyline for Connelly’s next book in the series, 2020’s The Law of Innocence .

“We always set up sort of the next case of the season. This one won’t quite set up the next case. But it will definitely set up the next book,” Rodriguez explained.

“I think we can say this season will definitely propel us in a very exciting and personal way into a season 4,” Humphrey added. The Netflix original series has yet to be green-lit for another season. Although the streamer didn’t previously get renewed until after season 2’s release.

As long as Connelly keeps writing books—and fans still want to see more of the Netflix original series—Humphrey and Rodriguez intend to keep going. “If the audience keeps enjoying what we’re doing, then we will keep making the show,” Humphrey said.

Garcia-Rulfo has the same attitude. “ “As long as Michael Connelly keeps writing the books, I’ll keep doing it,” he told Esquire ahead of the season 3 premiere.

They want to cover each of Connelly’s Lincoln Lawyer novels on the show. “We hope to adapt all the books,” Rodriguez said. “And may even go from there,” Humphrey added.

“Michael hints that he’s potentially working on another ‘Lincoln Lawyer’ book beyond the ones that have already been published,” Humphrey said of the author’s series, which currently stands at six books. “We don’t know that for sure.”

“Obviously, if he is working on one, we are very eager to read it,” he added. “We have plans internally for how to adapt versions of all the books.” As in, they have “a sense of where we would go for a potential season 5 and even 6 beyond that.”

The Lincoln Lawyer Seasons 1-3 are streaming on Netflix.
