As August approaches, HeBrews Coffee on South Market Street in Shreve will celebrate a milestone.

The coffeehouse famous for its friendly pooch mascots, Latte and Toddy, as well as for its biscuits and gravy, specialty coffee drinks and fresh bakery treats, will celebrate its sixth anniversary.

Chuck and Patty Visocky opened HeBrews Coffee in August 2018, and it has become a popular stop ever since.

Latte was just a pup back then, but she was on hand every day during during construction. Now, she's the famous Latte, and is in the Memorial Day Parade every year.

'Famous' for biscuits and gravy, but that wasn't in the plan

"We have people who stop in every day just to see her," Chuck said with a smile, noting customers look forward to petting the dogs.

The customers also get their Caruso Coffee fix, the specialty blend HeBrews Coffee features.

The luncheon menu has panini sandwiches, salads and breakfast sandwiches, as well as fresh bakery items.

"Somehow, our little coffee shop has become famous for our biscuits and gravy," Chuck said. "It's kind of weird, because that wasn't something we planned to do, but there was a demand, so we answered."

"We have the coffee shop and some offices, and a space for showers, weddings, birthday parties, business meetings, and the like," Patty added.

Chuck also operates a business coaching shop, helping small businesses become successful.

"A lot of small towns fail because small businesses fail," he said.

Just how did HeBrew get its name?

The Visockys said the name of their coffee shop is a bit of a pun that grew out of discussion they had with a small group at their church.

"There are a couple of scriptures, Hebrews 10:24 and 10:25, which says don't forsake eating together and gather to encourage one another," Chuck said. "That's really what we're here for. There's not a lot of coffee shops like ours. We like to see people spread out all around enjoying their visit here."

    He Brews is open 6:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday. It is closed Sundays.
