SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS ) — Local Latino non-profit declares July as Hispanic Health Month by reprising ‘Feria de Salud,’ offering free health services for the community; no insurance or identification required.
On July 14th, RASA will host their second health fair, ‘Feria de Salud,’ with the goal of improving the quality of life for Latinos across northwest Louisiana.
In a news release, RASA said it hopes to combat the healthcare disparity by connecting the Latino community to free, accessible healthcare with bilingual providers.
“The Latino population usually does not seek out health services because they lack insurance or due to a language barrier,” says RASA Executive Director Mario Villafuerte.
‘Our communities have decreased health care access compared to other populations in the state’
RASA notes no insurance or identification is required to access their free healthcare services, including:
Villafuerte invites the community to “Aumentar la calidad de vida (raise the quality of life).”
To enhance accessibility, RASA has brought together its health leadership team: Dr. Bruno Álvarez Consejo, Dr. Deborah Smith, Marilu Rodriguez, and Dr. Marie Vazuez-Morgan.
The event will be located at the Highland Center in Shreveport (520 Olive Street, Shreveport) from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Villafuerte shares that ‘this will be the biggest Latino healthcare event in the region’ with healthcare providers from:
St.Luke’s mobile ministry,
LSU Health Shreveport,
The Martin Luther King Health Clinic,
The Highland Center,
Northwestern State University School of Nursing and,
The NSW Spanish Club.
