SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS ) — A three-time Olympian based in Shreveport is off to his next mission in Washington, D.C.

Kendrick Farris is on his next mission in Washington, D.C., where he will address the nation’s lawmakers on the topic of nutrition.

“We have some meetings lined up with Congress, and also we’ll be meeting with the national black caucus,” shared Farris.

Farris, who is a vegan himself, is specifically advocating for plant-based food in schools nationwide.

“You got your pizza days, which you look forward to. You got your taco days. You may have some nachos, you may have a variety of days,” said Farris. “We just want to see if we can add something a little more healthy on that. See if we can balance it out a bit.”

He gave the example of offering non-dairy milk alternatives in schools for lactose intolerant students, such as oat or almond milk. Another example he used was offering alternatives for burger patties, such as soy, quinoa, or rice-based patties, rather than beef.

Farris heads to Washington on Saturday, July 6th.
