The Stageworks lease agreement between the city and G-Unit has been temporarily put on hold by the City of Shreveport attorneys, with approval from the Shreveport City Council deferred until ongoing negotiations are complete.

Chairman Alan Jackson of the Shreveport City Council confirmed that city attorneys have requested the postponement to work out the agreement's details with G-Unit attorneys.

"Simply, for lack of a better term − the lease is not ready," he said. "They're working out all of that legal jargon. Once the lease is ready then the city council, I can tell you, will approve it. We're just waiting for that lease to be ready."

G-Unit Films & Television is set to transform a portion of the Stageworks Louisiana building into a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue, featuring a wide variety of events such as amateur and professional basketball nd volleyball leagues and tournaments, amateur and professional boxing and MMA matches, seminars, conventions, auto shows, concerts, and general business meetings, as outlined in the background information on the ordinance's fact sheet provided to the council.

The council introduced the ordinance authorizing the lease agreement on April 23, but it has yet to receive approval as of July 9. When approved, the ordinance will offer G-Unit a 30-year lease for $2,400 a year with an option to renew for an additional 15 years.
