SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS ) — Humor and Harmony Festival has been moved.

“Due to forecasted temperatures, we are moving the Humor & Harmony festival indoors,” said Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson via an Instagram post.

Shreveport Police Department says the new venue has changed previous protocols but has made security more manageable.

“Changing the main venue from independence stadium to the municipal auditorium has allowed us to use a smaller footprint throughout the city. So it actually makes some of our traffic plans a lot easier to execute, it also requires less staffing on the part of the police department to do so,” said Corporal Chris Bordelon with the Shreveport Police Department.

However, like any weekend in Shreveport, the downtown area is anticipated to have heavy foot traffic, congestion, and limited parking. SPD says there will be several street closures and urges festivalgoers to use the free solution.

“We’ll have shuttle services at the mall St. Vincent parking lot as well as the bossier boardwalk. And from those locations, Sportran buses will come to the downtown area and drop off people, it will be free of charge for those attending the events,” said Corporal Bordelon.

According to the police department, Downtown Shreveport is the heartbeat of the city. Moving the main event allows SPD to stay close and best utilize partnerships with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office and the City Marshall for extra support.

“We’re not having to deal with interstate traffic in regard to Independence Stadium anymore, so we’re also in close proximity to many of our police facilities. So it really allows us to use our manpower more strategically and ultimately will help keep the entire event safer,” said Corporal Bordelon.
