    Centenary Muses Book Bazaar set for 37th annual event, including some rare finds

    The wait is almost over for one of the most anticipated event for Shreveport book lovers. The Centenary Muses Book Bazaar will be Sept. 13 and 14, according to an announcement on Facebook.

    “Preparations for the 37th Centenary Book Bazaar are in full swing, and our Muses have been hard at work to make this year’s event unforgettable,” reads the Facebook post.

    Among the thousands of books are a selection of unique books. Among them is the 1876 "Masterpieces of the Centennial Exhibition" by Edward Strahan. The collection includes "Volume I: Fine Art," "Volume II: Industrial Art" and "Volume III: History, Mechanics, Science."The book features illustrated catalogues of fine art, industrial art, history, mechanics and science from the Centennial Exhibition held in Philadelphia that year.

    Another rare find is "Art Treasures of England," dated 1877 and edited by J. Vernon Whitaker. The masterpieces of the best English, Irish and Scottish painters and sculptors are represented by 100 fine steel engravings with biographical and descriptive text.Those interested in seeing one of these selections before the sale can schedule a visit from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday or Wednesday at the Centenary Muses Book house.
