Predictions for top Shreveport-Bossier high school football games in Week 4

    By Jimmy Watson, Shreveport Times,

Here's a look at some of the action set to take place involving teams in the Shreveport-Bossier City area on the fourth weekend of the 2024 Louisiana High School Athletic Association high school football season.

Also included is our forecast of which teams are likely to come out winners on the final Friday night in September .

    Evangel (1-2, 1-1) at Airline (3-0, 1-0)

    When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Note: Setting up to be the highest scoring game of the week in LHSAA football, the Vikings vs. the Eagles could be a rip-roaring affair. Look for Airline’s Ben Taylor and Evangel’s Peyton Houston to find their playmakers and make this a fun watch.

    Watson’s prediction: Arline 55, Evangel 42

    Captain Shreve (2-1, 1-1) at Benton (0-3, 0-2)

    When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Note: Gator lineman LJ Prudhomme scored his first career TD last week and we’d like to see more out of the big man. Maybe the Tigers can hand off to their own big man in Witt Van Hoy. Now that’s a ball carrier we’d like to see.

    Watson’s prediction: Captain Shreve 28, Benton 27

    Haughton (1-2, 0-2) at Huntington (2-1, 2-0)

When: Friday, 7 p.m., Independence Stadium

Note: The Buccaneers’ Taylor Weathersby is due for a breakout game, but it won’t be easy against a Huntington defense led by Hakeem Norman, Jatarian Montgomery and Nehemiah Barrett.

    Watson’s prediction: Huntington 40, Haughton 35

    Parkway (3-0, 1-0) at Natchitoches Central (1-2, 0-2)

    When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Note: CJ Dudley ripped off three TDs last Friday for the Panthers and he could have another big game this week versus NCHS although Derrian Anthony is a difference maker on defense for coach Brad Laird.

    Watson’s prediction: Parkway 48, NCHS 21

    Byrd (3-0, 2-0) at John Ehret (1-2)

    When: Friday, 7 p.m., Marrero

Note: Maybe the surprise team of Northwest Louisiana so far this season, the Jackets play their last non-district game on the road against a tough Patriots team. Can Harrison Ayres keep his team undefeated?

    Watson’s prediction: Byrd 31, John Ehret 27

    Southwood (0-2) at Loyola (2-1)

    When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Note: The Flyers have fared well this fall against a trio of Class 1A squads, but now they step up to face a team their own size. Can Bryce Restovich and company wrestle their first District 1-4A victory?

    Watson’s prediction: Loyola 32, Southwood 27

    Woodlawn (1-2) at Minden (3-0)

    When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Note: If the Knights’ Quinton Wilson scores five TDs for a second consecutive week, Woodlawn pulls of an upset. But the Crimson Tide’s defensive line of Demetrius Robinson and Jarvis Robinson aren’t likely to let that happen.

    Watson’s prediction: Minden 38, Woodlawn 18

Northwood (3-0) at North DeSoto (1-2)

    When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Note: Forget that the Griffins have had a subpar start to the season, this will be a war of epic proportions, with the team making the fewest mistakes likely winning. The battle of the Griffins’ defensive line holding up against the Falcons’ offensive weapons will be key.

    Watson’s prediction: Northwood 31, North DeSoto 30

    D’Arbonne Woods (3-0) at Calvary (1-2)

    When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Note: If anyone would have predicted the Cavaliers being 1-2 prior to the season, they’d have been quickly shouted down. It’s time for the former No. 1 team in 2A to step up. The Timberwolves are no walk-over however.

    Watson’s prediction: Calvary 59, D’Arbonne Woods 22

Union Parish (0-3) vs. Green Oaks (1-2)

When: Friday, 7 p.m. at Northwood

Note: The Farmers haven’t been playing like defending state champs against their formidable schedule. And with the right breaks, the Giants’ Tovoras Lee and Tony Johnson could cause some problems.

Watson’s prediction: Union Parish 40, Green Oaks 18

    Last week: 9-1 Season: 22-8
