Voluntary boil advisory issued for southeast Shreveport

The Shreveport Water and Sewerage issued a voluntary boil advisory for southeast Shreveport after pumps went down at the booster station serving this area.

The system that allows Water and Sewerage to control the station remotely lost its signal causing pumps to shut down. According to the water department, after the pumps went down the water pressure began to lower than normal.

The water department said in a press release, "As a precaution, we are issuing a VOLUNTARY BOIL ADVISORY effective immediately. Once satisfactory laboratory test results confirm the water is safe, the Department of Water & Sewerage will rescind the Boil Advisory with approval from the Louisiana Department of Health."

The area affected includes customers south of East Bert Kouns, subdivisions along Linwood Avenue south of Bert Kouns and the region southeast of the Interstate 49 and 3132 interchange.

Customers are being advises to disinfect water before consuming-- this includes drinking, making fountain drinks, brushing teeth, food preparation, or rinsing foods.

Follow these guidelines to ensure safety:

    • Boil Water: In a clean container, boil water for one full minute. Start timing after the water has reached a rolling boil.
    • Improving Taste: If boiled water tastes flat, improve the flavor by shaking the water in a clean bottle or pouring it back and forth between two clean containers.

The water department said, "we appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this precautionary measure to ensure public health."
