MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Officials with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue (MCFRS) said discarded fireworks prompted a house fire Thursday night in Silver Spring.

At around 12:45 a.m., MCFRS responded to 3229 Medway St. near Claridge Road in the Glenmont Forest neighborhood for reports of a fire.

According to Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the department, the homeowner improperly disposed of the previously discharged fireworks, causing a fire to erupt outside the home.

Luckily, the home was brick, and MCFRS extinguished the fire before it could enter through a window, according to Piringer.

He said there were no injuries or displacements from the fire.
