SILVER SPRING, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Montgomery County is under a heat emergency through Wednesday evening, as temperatures soar across the DMV.

“This is the hottest day we’ve had,” Sybelle Mensah said. “It is very hot. Very, very hot.”

Mensah and her mother run Back to the Roots, an African clothing stand in downtown Silver Spring.

They set up outside nearly every day from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., even in the extreme heat.

“More water. We’re keeping hydrated and more buckets of ice. I think that’s the plan,” Mensah said.

Heat wave continues to grip the DMV

She said the heat hasn’t stopped customers from coming by.

“People walk by and they’ll see something that’ll catch their eye and it’ll make them forget about the heat,” she explained.

Across the street, families were opting to keep cool inside.

“We were thinking about hiking and that just seemed like way too much in the heat,” said Kate Rhudy, who went to the movies with her son. “We like to watch movies together so that was an easy decision.”

Officials in Montgomery County are warning neighbors to keep cool in the coming days.

Residents should report any heat related illness for people and pets to (301) 279-8000.
