Altercation leads to deadly shooting on Simi Valley bike path

An altercation between two men on a bike path in Simi Valley ended in a fatal shooting Tuesday night.

The incident was reported shortly before 9 p.m. on the path located in the area of Crinklaw Lane and Hidden Ranch Drive.

The victim, identified only as a 67-year-old man, was involved in some type of altercation with a 32-year-old man when he was shot in the chest and died at the scene, Simi Valley Police Department Sgt. Brennan said.

No details about the shooting have been released but witnesses initially said the younger man was with his family when an unhoused man tried to attack them with an unknown weapon.

Police later confirmed the victim was not homeless and lived in the area.

The shooter remained at the scene and was cooperating with authorities. The incident remains under investigation.
