An Amber Alert issued Friday night for a missing 4-month-old infant was later canceled, after the baby was found safe at a truck stop in another county.

The Amber Alert was issued after the child’s mother told the Simpsonville Police Department the baby’s father, Michael Lay, 28, had assaulted her and used force to take the baby, police said in a news release Friday night.

Police were called to the home on Buck Creek Road in Shelby County at 6:20 p.m.

Officers talked with Lay by phone “and attempted to convince him to return the child,” the release stated. “When he refused, the child was immediately entered as a missing child, and an Amber Alert was activated.”

The Shepherdsville Police Department found the vehicle in which Lay and the baby were traveling at a truck stop on East Blue Lick Road in Bullitt County at 7:17 p.m.

Lay was arrested on a warrant out of Simpsonville, and the baby was taken to a hospital to be checked out, police said.
