Man accused of scratching vehicles in Sioux City parking ramp arrested

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The man accused of scratching vehicles that were parked in a Sioux City parking ramp has been arrested.

According to court documents, police arrested Jeffrey Delk, 36, of Sioux City, on Wednesday in connection to an investigation into multiple vehicles being vandalized inside the MLK Transportation Center Parking Ramp.

Documents state that surveillance video captured Delk committing the act of vandalism. 12 vehicles in total were found to have been damaged by scratches made with a knife. For all the vehicles, damage is estimated to be between $18,000 and $30,000.

Delk admitted to admitted to committing the crime in a post-Miranda interview, documents state.

In the interview, Delk allegedly told officials he had placed some of his belongings in one of the trash cans and when he went to retrieve them they were gone. When he realized his things were gone he “went off the deep end,” according to court documents.

Documents state that Delk felt someone parked on the floor of the parking ramp may have stolen his belongings, leading him to damage the vehicles.

After his arrest, Delk was charged with 1st-degree criminal mischief, a class C felony.

Delk is currently being held in the Woodbury County Jail on a $30,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 5 at 9 a.m.
