SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Sioux City Community School District board member Dan Greenwell has been ordered to pay more than $52,000 in attorney fees to former superintendent Dr. Paul Gausman in a civil lawsuit.

The order is part of a settlement from a suit filed against Greenwell and others by Dr. Gausman. A judge ruled back in April that Greenwell “did not act in good faith” in his role in setting up a closed door school board meeting on January 24, 2022, violating Iowa’s open meetings law.

The judge previously ruled that a closed door school board meeting was properly closed to the public on November 30, 2022.
