SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Loess Hills Wild Ones will be hosting a Garden Tour at the two locations.

The Loess Hills chapter of Wild Ones is a non-profit organization that promotes planting native landscapes, both small and large, in Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska.

The Native Plant Sale and Garden Tour will be held at the home of Ruth Rose in Sioux City. Rose has dubbed her gardens, “The Wild Mess in Progress.” She has a mix of native plants, trees, shrubs, non-native plants, water features, and garden statuary.

The Pop-Up Native Plant Sale will be held at Rose’s location only on Talbot Road in Sioux City. Plant species available include pasque flower, prairie smoke, wild senna, prairie milkweed, pale purple coneflower, and prairie blazing star.

All proceeds from the plant sales go back into community native gardens and planting by donation and competitive grants.

The second tour will be held at the Metzger Native Gardens at the home of Danielle and James Metzger, in Hinton.

Metzger’s gardens began in 2020 and include a variety of native prairie plants in more than ten differently designed garden beds. Metzger has additional plans for more gardens, including a water feature.

The tours will start on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 10. They are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The garden tours are free, open to the public, and are open house format. Refreshments and restrooms are available.
