Siouxland Miracle Riders depart, raising thousands of dollars for Sioux City hospital

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU)– A local biker group has set off this morning on a two-week trip to raise money for a local hospital.

Each year, the Siouxland Miracle Riders drive across the country, collecting donations to help the UnityPoint Health Children’s Miracle Network.

This year marks the 9th annual event, and bikers will be traveling to Skagway, Alaska, more than a thousand miles away from Sioux City, while traversing through Canada for the first time to raise $50,000 for a pediatric safe room for UnityPoint Health.

“Our journey is meant to, in a very small way, represent kind of what these kids that we’re riding for are going through like their journey. They don’t know what every day brings, right? They could be in the hospital and having to having a bad day. They could have a good day. They never know what’s around each corner for them. So when we ride, we always say, hey, we don’t know what’s around the corner for us, and whatever we face is so minuscule compared to what all these kids and their families have to go through when they’re going through these health battles,” said Matt Thompson, Lead Rider for the Siouxland Miracle Riders.
