A Minnesota toddler has died in a South Dakota hospital after falling from the third-story window of a Sioux Falls hotel this past weekend.

A GoFundMe says one-year-old Madden Hein, of Lakefield, Minnesota, fell on Saturday. He was taken to a local hospital where he was in critical condition until the early morning hours on Tuesday.

Madden's family said he passed away on Monday.

"We miss him so much and we are having a hard time processing this all," Alex Hein, Madden's father, said on X.

Alex is a social studies teacher and head boys basketball coach at Jackson County Central High School.

The Sioux Falls Police Department said the incident happened at the Club House Hotel & Suites on the 2300 block of Louise Avenue.

An investigation into the circumstances of Hein's fall is ongoing.

"Madden has two amazing, loving parents who are teachers, an older sister who is 3 and a little sibling on the way who is due in August," the GoFundMe reads.

Support has been offered by the family's local church, the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jackson, Minnesota, which held an Adoration and a rosary on Monday evening "for the miraculous healing of Madden Hein."

Funds are being raised for the family's medical costs. As of Tuesday morning, the fundraiser has raised over $54,000 of its $100,000 goal.
